TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) – Arizona State senior Jamelle McMillan always seemed to know a little more about basketball than his teammates, almost like a coach on the floor.
It’s no surprise. His father, Nate, played 12 years in the NBA, so McMillan got to see the intricacies of the game at its highest level.
And he’s not alone.
Sons of NBA players are sprinkled across college basketball, from Klay Thompson, son of Mychal, at Washington State, to Michael Jordan’s kid, Marcus, at Central Florida.
There’s more than two dozen altogether and some schools have multiple NBA sons on the roster, including Arizona State, where McMillan played alongside freshman Corey Hawkins, son of former NBA sharpshooter Hersey.
