STORRS, Conn. (AP) -Connecticut coach Jim Calhoun plans to stay at Connecticut, although a school spokesman says reports he has reached an agreement on a new contract are premature.
ESPN.com reported Thursday that Calhoun had reached agreement on a four-year deal to stay at the school, citing a statement released by his agent.
The statement says that Calhoun is “close to finalizing a new contract” and that he plans “on continuing as the head coach of the men’s basketball team for several more years.”
Calhoun made a similar statement in December, and school spokesman Kyle Muncy said the coach’s position has not changed. Muncy said any reports that a deal has been finalized are erroneous.
The Hall of Fame coach will turn 68 in May, and has dealt with several health issues over the past few years. He missed seven games this season with an undisclosed medical condition.
