ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) -Amir Johnson scored 12 points, including a layup with 1 second left to seal Radford’s 66-65 win over North Carolina-Asheville on Saturday.
The Bulldogs regained the lead at 65-64 on Sean Smith’s layup with 7 seconds left. But Smith didn’t convert the free throw that would have sealed the three-point play, as Kenny Thomas grabbed the rebound for the Highlanders and Johnson’s layup got the win.
Artsiom Parakhouski led the Highlanders (15-10, 12-2 Big South Conference) with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Thomas and Joey Lynch-Flohr added 14 points apiece.
J.P. Primm led the Bulldogs (12-14, 8-7) with 17 points.
UNC-Asheville led by eight points at halftime, maintaining that margin in the second half on a pair of John Williams free throws that put the Bulldogs up 55-47 with 7:36 to play. The Highlanders went on a 12-6 run from that point to take the lead.
