CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) -Less than two weeks ago, Michigan State had a firm grip on the Big Ten lead with a two-game edge on their closest challengers.
That seems long ago.
The 10th-ranked Spartans have dropped three straight while Illinois and No. 13 Ohio State have each won five in a row. That’s created a three-team jam at the top of the league. No. 6 Purdue and 11th-ranked Wisconsin are right behind.
Ohio State coach Thad Matta chalks that up to what he calls the beauty of the Big Ten: Ease up for an instant and you lose.
