BALTIMORE (AP) -Antwan Harrison scored 19 points and Tywain McKee and Vince Goldsberry each had 16 to lead Coppin State to a 79-67 victory Saturday over South Carolina State.
Coppin State (6-19, 2-8 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) never trailed against South Carolina State (8-15, 4-5) and has now won two straight conference games after losing eight straight to start the season. The Bulldogs, which are third in the league in scoring, had trouble adjusting to Coppin State?s high-pressure defense and committed 17 turnovers.
Jason Flagler had 19 points, Robert Baker had 15 and Julius Carter added 11 points for South Carolina State.
Coppin State opened the game on a 25-13 run and kept South Carolina State off-balance with its quick transition. The Eagles kept up the pressure in the second half and back-to-back steals and dunks by Harrison boosted the Eagles' lead to 51-37 with 14:32 left in the game. The Bulldogs cut the lead to 10 with 10:44 left, but that was as close as they could get.
South Carolina State struggled with their shooting throughout the game, making 12 of 30 field goals.
