KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -Selection Sunday hasn’t been kind to the Missouri Valley Conference lately. Since 2006, when the league set its record with four NCAA tournament berths, the Valley has received one at-large bid.
That could change this year: Led by Northern Iowa and Wichita State, the Valley is as deep and talented as it’s been in recent years.
Matching the four NCAA berths in 2006 is a long shot, but the league has done enough in nonconference play to merit a long look when tournament time comes.
Northern Iowa and Wichita State have 17 wins each, and could get into the NCAA tournament if neither gets the Valley’s automatic bid. A third team could make it if someone else wins the conference tournament.
