NORMAL, Ill. (AP) – Osiris Eldridge scored a team-high 17 points on 4-of-7 shooting to lead Illinois State past Evansville 74-66 at the Redbird Arena Saturday night.
The win gives the Redbirds (13-3, 5-0 Missouri Valley) their first eight-game winning streak since the end of the 1991-92 season.
Boo Richardson chipped in 11 points and two assists, and Dom Johnson added 10 points, all in the second half, for the Redbirds.
Shy Ely had a game-high and career-high 28 points for the Purple Aces (5-10, 0-5 MVC) on 10-for-18 shooting from the field. Jason Holsinger was the only other Evansville player in double digits, adding 10 points and six assists.
Illinois State took a 34-25 lead into the half.
Evansville trimmed the Redbirds’ lead to 47-44 after Darin Granger hit a 3-pointer at the 8:57 mark in the second half, capping an 11-5 run over three minutes for the Purple Aces.
Illinois State dominated in the game’s final minutes, hitting 13-of-16 free throws in the last 3:41.
