WASHINGTON (AP) -The injury-depleted Washington Wizards are expected to sign guard Mike Wilks and have him in uniform for Wednesday’s game against the Chicago Bulls.
The 5-foot-10 Wilks has played for seven NBA teams, most recently averaging three points and 15.3 minutes in eight games with the Denver Nuggets this season. He was waived by Denver last month.
Since entering the league with the Atlanta Hawks during the 2002-03 season, Wilks has appeared in 222 games, averaging 2.5 points and 1.2 assists.
The Wizards are down to nine healthy players, and their top two point guards are out: starter Gilbert Arenas (left knee surgery) and his primary backup, Antonio Daniels (sprained right knee). Forward-center Oleksiy Pecherov is sidelined because of a broken right ankle.
Despite all of the injuries, the Wizards are on a four-game winning steak and have won 13 of their past 18 games.
“We are trying to prepare the guys we have,” coach Eddie Jordan said after practice Tuesday. “We can’t be distracted by something we can’t control. It isn’t worth it.”
