DENVER (AP) -Carmelo Anthony scored a franchise-record 33 points in the third quarter of the Denver Nuggets’ game against Minnesota on Wednesday night.
Anthony broke David Thompson’s record of 32 points in a quarter set April 9, 1978.
Anthony, whose season high for a game entering Wednesday was 30, scored 33 of the team’s 40 points in the period as the Nuggets turned a 12-point halftime deficit into an 84-78 lead heading into the fourth. Anthony had 42 points after three quarters
He was 12-for-15 in the period, including 4-for-5 from behind the 3-point line. At one point he made eight straight shots and scored 24 straight points for the Nuggets, turning a 56-51 deficit into a 77-74 lead.
