OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -The Oklahoma City Thunder have fired coach P.J. Carlesimo, with the team off to an NBA-worst 1-12 start in its new city.
Assistant Scott Brooks was appointed interim coach Saturday. General manager Sam Presti called the dismissal a “very difficult” but necessary decision. The Thunder have lost 10 in a row.
The firing came after a 105-80 loss Friday night to the New Orleans Hornets. The Hornets played for two seasons in Oklahoma City and rebuilt themselves into a playoff contender during that time.
The Thunder relocated from Seattle in the offseason after a franchise-worst 20-win season to start Carlesimo’s tenure. Carlesimo was 21-74 in just more than one season with the franchise.
Oklahoma City plays the Hornets again Saturday night in New Orleans.
