CLEVELAND (AP) – Cavaliers center Anderson Varejao is staying in Cleveland to be with his father after he had heart surgery and will not travel to Toronto to play against the Raptors.
There was a chance Varejao, who recently left the Cavs after his grandfather’s death in Brazil, would rejoin the team after his father’s operation. He may rejoin the team for Saturday night’s home game against Sacramento.
Cavs coach Byron Scott said starting guard Mo Williams remains a game-time decision against the Raptors on Friday night. Williams was sidelined for much of training camp and the exhibition season with a groin injury. Williams also missed five days last week to attend his father-in-law’s funeral in Mississippi.
