CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) – Michael Jordan isn’t thinking much about the significance of being the first ex-player to own an NBA team and just the second black majority owner.
He has too much work to do in what he calls a “shot of a lifetime.”
In an interview with The Associated Press Friday, Jordan told of how he nearly missed out on buying the Charlotte Bobcats in the spring, and how he’s determined to make the team profitable.
Preparing for his first full season as majority owner, Jordan insists the Bobcats are “better off” than last year despite losing point guard Raymond Felton in free agency and Tyson Chandler in a trade to shed payroll. Jordan thinks much-traveled coach Larry Brown is not in his final season in Charlotte because he has “too much coaching in him.”
