WASHINGTON (AP) -The Washington Wizards waived Tony Massenburg on Sunday, ending the 40-year-old’s bid at a comeback.
Massenburg was hoping to play for what would have been an NBA-record 13th franchise. But he averaged two points, 1.8 rebounds and only 8.3 minutes in four preseason games.
For his career, Massenburg averaged 6.2 points and 4.3 rebounds over 13 NBA seasons. He was out of the league the past two seasons after breaking his left ankle in a car crash.
The Wizards also waived guard Donell Taylor, who spent the past two seasons with Washington. He averaged 5.8 points and 1.3 steals in 13.8 minutes during the preseason.
