NEW YORK (AP) -Prosecutors in New York City say Indiana Pacers draft pick Lance Stephenson pushed his girlfriend down a flight of stairs, grabbed her and hit her head on the bottom step.
A judge released the 19-year-old Stephenson without bail Sunday after his arrest on assault, menacing and harassment charges.
Pacers president Larry Bird calls Stephenson’s arrest very disappointing to the Pacers franchise and to him personally. A defense attorney says Stephenson didn’t harm the woman.
Stephenson was one of the nation’s top high school prospects. He played one season at Cincinnati before applying for early entry to the NBA draft.
