MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -A person with knowledge of the negotiations says the Minnesota Timberwolves have reached a verbal agreement with Kurt Rambis to become the team’s next head coach.
Rambis and the Timberwolves are still ironing out details of the deal, which is expected to be announced early this week. The person spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity on Sunday because an official announcement has not been made.
Timberwolves president David Kahn said in a text message that he met with Rambis’ agent on Sunday morning but had yet to reach an official deal.
The selection ends an exhaustive seven-week search after Kahn decided in June not to bring Kevin McHale back.
Rambis was one of three finalists for the job, along with ESPN analyst Mark Jackson and Houston assistant Elston Turner.
