LAS VEGAS (AP) – David Blatt will never forget July 11, 2014.
Not because it was his first time coaching the Cleveland Cavaliers, if only in a summer league game. Instead, it was when he learned he’ll be coaching LeBron James.
The summer league debuts of Blatt and No. 1 overall pick Andrew Wiggins came Friday night, when the Cavaliers met the Milwaukee Bucks in Las Vegas. Ordinarily, that would have been enough to create some buzz.
But James’ announcement earlier in the day that he was returning to the Cavaliers and leaving the Miami Heat overshadowed everything, and rightly so. Blatt says he found out during the team’s morning practice and that ”to say that I’m excited and happy would probably qualify as one of the great understatements of the millennium.”
