MIAMI (AP) -Alonzo Mourning and Erik Spoelstra of the Miami Heat, along with Rudy Gay of the Memphis Grizzlies, were among those joining an envoy of relief workers going to Haiti.
They were leaving Saturday to help in the earthquake-ravaged city of Port-au-Prince.
The group is scheduled to arrive in Haiti in the afternoon.
On the itinerary: Presenting a $25,000 check from the Heat to Project Medishare, a non-profit organization that has tended to the medical needs of Haitian residents. They’ll also distribute 20 large temporary tent homes and other essential equipment to families.
The Heat group also planned to visit a tent hospital.
