LOS ANGELES (AP) -Derek Fisher is rarely – if ever – considered one of the top point guards in the NBA.
Still, 14 years after he first entered the league, the durable Fisher could be on his way to guiding the Lakers to the franchise’s 16th championship.
In seeking his fifth title, Fisher has held his own against some of the league’s marquee point guards including the Phoenix Sun’s Steve Nash and Utah’s Deron Williams.
He’s also been a steadying force on the team and helped mentor understudies Shannon Brown and Jordan Farmar.
The trio combined for 19 points, six rebounds, four assists and one turnover during the Lakers’ 102-89 victory over the Boston Celtics in Game 1 of the NBA finals on Thursday night.
