NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) – World Wrestling Entertainment’s bombastic owner is making the most of a controversy with the Denver Nuggets. Vince McMahon has challenged Nuggets owner Stan Kroenke to a steel-cage match.
What’s the trouble?
Months ago, WWE booked the Pepsi Center to tape its popular Monday Night Raw event. But the Nuggets and the Los Angeles Lakers are playing Game 4 of the NBA’s Western Conference finals that night at the same arena.
A team spokesman says the Nuggets and WWE are trying to resolve the situation amicably.
The dispute provides a welcome shot of publicity. Like other companies, the Stamford, Conn.-based producer of live television wrestling matches is battling the weak economy. One analyst calls the publicity free marketing for wrestling.
