TORONTO (AP) -Toronto Raptors guard T.J. Ford left Tuesday night’s game against New Jersey after colliding with Vince Carter of the Nets in the final 30 seconds of the first quarter.
Carter elbowed Ford in the mouth and then landed on him as the two battled for a loose ball under Toronto’s basket. Ford was cut inside the mouth and suffered what team officials called a “stinger” down both arms.
Ford stayed down on the court for a minute before being helped to his feet. He was treated at the bench before making one of two free throws. He stayed in the game briefly but was replaced by Jose Calderon and left the arena for tests.
Ford scored three points in seven minutes.
Ford missed part of his rookie season in 2003-04 and the entire 2004-05 season after suffering a back injury in a collision with Minnesota center Mark Madsen.
