DENVER (AP) -The Denver Nuggets have suspended Carmelo Anthony for one game for an “in-game transgression” Sunday against Indiana.
“There is a code of conduct that we take very seriously, especially from a leader and co-captain,” Rex Chapman, vice president of player personnel, said Monday. “Carmelo knows this and regrets what happened. He is a very competitive person and made a poor decision in the heat of the moment. We look forward to having him back on Thursday and will have no further comment at this time.”
He did not elaborate on what Anthony did to earn the suspension.
The Nuggets said in a news release that Anthony will miss Denver’s game at Detroit on Tuesday night, the Nuggets said in a news release. He will return to the lineup for Thursday’s game against Portland.
Earlier Monday, team spokesman Eric Sebastian said Anthony would miss Tuesday night’s game because of a personal matter he had to deal with in Denver.

This is the Nuggets’ first trip to Detroit since the Nov. 3 trade between the teams sent Chauncey Billups to Denver and Allen Iverson to the Pistons.
Iverson with be out for the third straight game Tuesday night because of a bad back.
The Nuggets return home after their game at The Palace and face Portland Thursday night at the Pepsi Center, the first of four games in five nights for Denver, which leads the Trail Blazers by 1 1/2 games and Utah by two in the tight Northwest Division.
