GREENBURGH, N.Y. (AP) -Two years ago, Mike D’Antoni had his choice between two of the NBA’s most renowned franchises.
He would have been the leading candidate to coach the next U.S. Olympic team had Mike Krzyzewski declined to return.
Now, D’Antoni is on pace to lose 100 games in two seasons.
With the New York Knicks at 20-39, losses now come as quickly for D’Antoni as points used to, and the coach says, “I haven’t had a good year, that’s for sure.”
But his defenders say D’Antoni shouldn’t be blamed for the Knicks’ struggles, because their moves for the future haven’t left him the proper personnel for his system.
