NEW ORLEANS (AP) -Hornets forward David West, who has missed five games with a back injury, was in New Orleans’ starting lineup against Golden State on Friday night.
Recently picked as a Western Conference All-Star for the second season in a row, West has averaged 20 points and 7.1 rebounds through 37 games.
West said the injury occurred during the Hornets’ victory in Detroit on Jan. 17 and flared up on him a day later.
The Hornets won four of their last five games without West and starting center Tyson Chandler (left ankle sprain).
West returned for the beginning of back-to-back games which include Saturday night’s contest at Southwest Division leader San Antonio.
“I want to see how long he can go,” Hornets coach Byron Scott said, saying he expected to hold West’s minutes to around 30 against the Warriors, below his average of about 38 before the injury. “Getting him in this game is a good test for getting him ready for tomorrow.”
