Celtics edged by Lakers
Boston is coming off a 114-112 loss at Los Angeles to the Lakers on Sunday. It was just their second loss in 10 games. The Celtics have covered the spread in three straight games. Boston is 39-17 on the season, 16-12 on the road, 34-20-2 against the spread and 30-26 with the under.
The Celtics are putting up 113.3 points per game on offense while shooting 46.2 percent from the field. Defensively, Boston is allowing just 106.6 points per game while allowing opponents to shoot just 44.1 percent. The Celtics are without Kemba Walker due to a knee injury. He averages 21.8 points, 4.1 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game. Jayson Tatum is leading the team with 22.9 points and 7.0 rebounds per game, while Jaylen Brown is adding 20.3 points and 6.4 rebounds per contest.
Blazers edge Detroit
Portland is coming off a 107-104 win at home over Detroit on Sunday night, snapping a three-game losing streak. However, the Blazers have failed to cover in four straight. Portland is 26-32 on the season, 16-12 at home, 23-33-2 against the spread and 32-26 with the over.
The Blazers are giving up 115.3 points per game while opponents shoot 45.1 percent from the field. Offensively, Portland average 113.3 points per game while shooting 45.6 percent as a team. Damian Lillard remains out for Portland due to a groin injury. Lillard is leading the team with 29.5 points and 7.9 assists per game. CJ McCollum puts up 21.8 points per game for Portland, while Hassan Whiteside adds 15.8 points and 14.1 rebounds per contest.
NBA Betting Trends
Boston
The Celtics are 6-2 against the spread in their last eight games as a favorite and 5-1 ATS in their last six games following a loss.
Portland
The Blazers are 5-16 against the spread in their last 21 Tuesday games and 2-6-2 ATS in their last 10 games as a home underdog.
Prediction:
This is the first meeting between these two this season. Portland had some momentum going before Lillard got hurt. They have failed to cover since and they don’t have the same offensive spark. The Celtics have looked really good as of late, even without Walker. Tatum is playing some of his best basketball of his career and the Celtics just have the better all-around depth here. I like them to cover this big spread against a Portland team that can’t get stops and their offense is lacking without Lillard.
NBA Prediction: Boston Celtics -7.5
