Kings talking with George Karl
SACRAMENTO, CA (TheSpread) – Instead of waiting until next season, the Sacramento Kings are targeting George Karl to be their next coach right now.
In a story from ESPN’s Marc Stein, the Kings have begun having serious discussions with Karl to take over the bench in Sacramento. He would replace interim coach Tyrone Corbin, who replaced Michael Malone back in December. Karl expressed interest in the job back in December, but this is the first time his name has been seriously linked to the position.
According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, the Kings currently have 10000/1 odds to win the NBA Finals this year, joining the Utah Jazz with the second-longest odds. They list Cleveland as their favorite with 14/5 odds while Golden State comes in at 18/5.
The Kings are 17-32 on the season and 6-19 since Corbin took over, losing 11 of their last 12 in this latest run. Sacramento only has a better record than the Lakers and Timberwolves in the West and they are 10.5 games behind Phoenix for the eighth spot in the West. Karl last coached the Denver Nuggets for nine seasons into the summer of 2013. He made the played in each of his nine years with the team.
