76ers struggle on the road
Despite having a solid overall record, Philadelphia has been a mess away from home and is coming off a 127-117 road loss to the Hawks on Thursday. The 76ers are 31-18 on the season, 9-16 on the road, 20-25-4 against the spread and 25-23-1 with the under.
The 76ers are putting up 108.7 points per game on offense this season while shooting 46.8 percent from the field. Defensively, Philly gives up just 105.2 points per game while opponents are held to 45.4 percent shooting. Joel Embiid returned this week from a hand injury. He is averaging 23.3 points and 12.3 rebounds per game for the 76ers. Tobias Harris is adding 19.4 points and 6.8 rebounds per contest.
Celtics heating up, but banged up
Boston has won five of its last six straight up and against the spread following a 119-104 win over Golden State on Thursday night at home. The Celtics are now 32-15 on the season, 19-5 at home, 28-17-2 against the spread and 27-20 with the under.
The Celtics are putting up 112.4 points per game on offense this season while shooting 46.1 percent from the floor. Defensively, Boston is allowing just 105.5 points per game while holding opponents to 44.3 percent shooting. The Celtics have some notable injuries today with Enes Kanter and Kemba Walker both listed as out. Walker averages 22.0 points and 5.0 assists per game while Kanter adds 9.5 points and 8.2 rebounds per contest. Jayson Tatum is putting up 21.5 points and 6.9 rebounds per game this year while Jaylen Brown is adding 20.1 points and 6.6 rebounds per game.
NBA Betting Trends
Philadelphia
The 76ers are 3-12-1 against the spread in their last 16 road games and 0-5-1 ATS in their last six games as a road underdog.
Boston
The Celtics are 5-2 against the spread in their last seven home games and 5-1 ATS in their last six games when playing on 1 day of rest.
Prediction:
The 76ers have owned the Celtics this year, winning and covering the spread in all three meetings. That includes a 115-109 win at Boston on Dec. 12. The 76ers have not been reliable on the road at all and have struggled in general with good defensive teams. That certainly seems like a bad recipe for tonight’s game. However, the loss of Walker and Kanter definitely shorten the impact the Celtics can have on both sides of the floor. While they have been playing well, I think tonight will be a difficult matchup. The 76ers still have a lot of depth and play-making ability. Boston loses a great deal of that with Walker out.
NBA Prediction: Philadelphia 76ers +1.5
