Blazers not finding their stride
Portland has struggled to win consistently and the Blazers are just 3-5 in their last eight despite coming off a 115-112 win at home over Charlotte on Monday. The Blazers are 17-24 on the season, 8-14 on the road, 15-24-2 against the spread and 21-20 with the under.
The Blazers are a steady offense that is putting up 111.5 points per game while shooting 45 percent. However, the defense is giving up 113.8 points per game while allowing opponents to shoot 44.6 percent form the field and 36.5 percent from the arc. Damian Lillard is leading the Blazers this season with 26.8 points, 4.1 rebounds and 7.6 assists per game. CJ McCollum is adding 21.9 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.8 assists per contest.
Rockets fall in Memphis
Houston had another lackluster showing on the road last night, suffering a 121-110 loss at Memphis. However, they have won and covered in their last four home games. Houston is 26-13 on the year, 14-4 at home, 19-20 against the spread and 22-17 with the under.
The Rockets rank second in the NBA in offense, averaging 119 points per game despite shooting just 45.4 percent as a team. Defensively, Houston is allowing 113.9 points per game while allowing opponents to shoot 45.6 percent against them. Houston is led by James Harden, who is averaging 37.8 points, 6.2 rebounds and 7.5 assists per game. Russell Westbrook is adding 24.6 points, 7.7 rebounds and 7.0 assists per game. He rested last night, but is good to play tonight.
NBA Betting Trends
Portland
The Blazers are 2-7 against the spread in their last nine road games and 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games when playing on 1 day of rest.
Houston
The Rockets have covered the spread in five of their last seven following a loss and in four of their last five after a failed cover.
Prediction:
Tonight is a quick turnaround for Houston after a loss last night on the road, but the Rockets already only a 132-108 win at home over Portland this year. The Rockets are a far better team at home and their offense is far more impactful. Westbrook has a fresh pair of legs to work with as well, so Houston shouldn’t look overly sluggish from playing last night. Portland just hasn’t been the team we expected this year and nearly midway through the season, that’s no longer just a bad stretch, it’s who they are. I think they get overwhelmed by the Rockets tonight.
NBA Prediction: Houston Rockets -9
