RICHMOND, Va. (AP) – Clint Bowyer needs only a clean race at Richmond International Speedway to lock down the final spot in the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship.
Bowyer goes into Saturday night’s “regular-season finale” with a 117-point lead over Ryan Newman in the standings, and needs only to finish 28th or better to grab the final spot in the 12-driver Chase field.
Richmond is one of Bowyer’s better tracks. He has one win and four top-10s in nine career starts on the 0.75-mile oval. His worst finish was 18th in May 2009.
So Bowyer says he’s feeling good about his chances of making the Chase. Bowyer made the Chase twice before, in 2007 and 2008.
