RICHMOND, Va. (AP) – Defending NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson fell ill following Saturday night’s race at Richmond International Raceway.
Johnson said nothing about his health over his radio in the closing laps as he drove to an eighth-place finish. But after he laid down next to his car after pulling onto pit road, and his Hendrick Motorsports crew had to help him onto a cart.
Johnson was taken to the infield medical center and NASCAR said he was being treated for dehydration.
Johnson, a six-time NASCAR champion, was scheduled to compete Sunday in a sprint triathlon for his foundation.
