HAMPTON, Ga. (AP) - The start of the NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Atlanta Motor Speedway is being delayed by rain.
The AdvoCare 500 was scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, but rain began moving into the area during the afternoon from the outer bands of Tropical Storm Lee. That storm pounded the Gulf Coast with more than a foot of rain and was expected to bring severe storms to Atlanta on Monday.
NASCAR has sent dryers back on the track, even though a light drizzle is still falling at about the time the race was supposed to begin. Forecasters are predicting a break in the rain and officials say ``they will make every effort to get the race in.''
Given the forecast, the race would likely have to be run on Tuesday if it's postponed.
