AROUND THE TRACK:
CAR--AROUND THE TRACK
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Kurt Busch started from the pole at Darlington Raceway and led 69 laps before his car began to fade. When it did, it triggered some of that salty language Busch is notorious for using on his in-car radio. But it was tame by Busch's standards, and that's something he's been working on this year. CAR--INDYCAR-INDY 500-PIPPA RETURNS
INDIANAPOLIS - Two years ago, Pippa Mann looked like a rising IndyCar star. Then her career was derailed by a frightening, fiery season-ending crash at Las Vegas. Dan Wheldon was killed and Mann was injured. She wanted to make a comeback at Indianapolis last year, but the deal fell through. This weekend, the British driver will try to qualify for her first race since Las Vegas. By Cliff Brunt. AP Photos.
Formula One is still in preliminary discussions over how to implement a new penalty points system - one that would in essence punish drivers for each infringement until they total too many points and then get hit with a race ban. ``I don't like it. I don't know, maybe I'm a little bit too old fashioned,'' said three-time defending champion Sebastian Vettel. By Jerome Pugmire.
Tires shredded like paper, rubber flew everywhere and cars flitted in and out of the pit lane like shoppers in a supermarket parking lot. On a frustrating day for drivers and fans alike, nearly 80 pit stops were made during Sunday's Spanish Grand Prix, again highlighting what has become a major concerns for Formula One teams five races into the season - the vulnerability of Pirelli's tires.
