 LENOIR, N.C. (AP) - Former NASCAR driver Jeremy Mayfield is free on bond after turning himself in to a magistrate in North Carolina, where he is accused of stealing property belonging to Red Bull Racing and other businesses.
Mayfield surrendered himself to a magistrate in Caldwell County on Thursday afternoon and was released on $100,000 unsecured bond. Indictments by a grand jury released last month charged Mayfield with three counts of possessing property stolen from businesses, and a fourth charge of obtaining property by false pretense. He has called the latest charges ``baseless.''
In November, authorities raided Mayfield's Catawba home after which he was charged with possessing 1.5 grams of methamphetamine.
Mayfield was suspended from NASCAR after failing a random drug test at Richmond International Raceway in May 2009.
