Aaron's 499 Free Picks
TALLADEGA, AL (ATS Consultants) - The Sprint Cup Series heads to Talladega Superspeedway on Sunday, May 6 for the Aaron’s 499, at 1pmET.
NASCAR returns to Talladega, Ala. and the Superspeedway for the biggest oval in stock racing at 2.66 miles. Dale Earnhardt Jr. hasn’t won a Sprint Cup points race in his last 138 tries but he is the favorite here at Talladega after pushing Jimmie Johnson on the final lap last year.
Johnson got the win over Clint Boyer by a narrow margin to win the Aaron’s 499 at Talladega. Johnson also won here in May 2006. Earnhardt won the spring race at Talladega Superspeedway in consecutive years from 2004-05 and has steadily climbed up the points rankings after his fifth straight top-10 finish.
Johnson has 55 career Sprint Cup wins so far and is seeking his first trip to victory lane this season. He was sixth last week at Richmond. He does own seven top-10 finishes in nine starts this year. He has the second most top five finishes, second most top-10 finishes, and the third best average finish. He is still one of the safest picks despite his most recent drought. Johnson is the defending champion of the Talladega Aaron’s 499. Since 2006 he has the best average finish (12.7) and the best average starting position (11.4). In the last five Talladega races Johnson has qualified 1st, 1st, 19th, 2nd and 2nd.
Biffle is leading the points and has not won here, but he’s seems to be having a career season. Biffle qualified 2nd for the Daytona 500 and is strictly on this week’s team for a crack at Q points.
Logano’s career at Talladega is similar to Brad Keselowski’s although with no victories yet. Logano has four top ten finishes in six races with two of those being in the top five. Logano finishes have been 9th, 3rd, 36th, 5th, 10th, 24th.
