Auto Club 500 Odds

A week after the NASCAR Super Bowl, the 2008 Daytona 500, winner (and 30/1 underdog) Ryan Newman again finds himself getting very little respect from oddsmakers at online sports book Bodog. Newman who broke an 81 race winless streak with his victory in the 50th Daytona 500, will start the Auto Club 500 at California Speedway as a 20/1 underdog.

The favorites once again will be the Hendrick Motorsports “dynamic duo” of Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson. Despite some serious struggles in the season opener Gordon and Johnson lead the 2008 Auto Club 500 betting odds at 6/1 according to Bodog oddsmakers. If Gordon and Johnson are able to make the oddsmakers predictions a reality, each $100 wager would pay $600.

Bodog oddsmakers have odds listed on 33 drivers to win the Auto Club 500 in addition to the “Field” wager which includes the remaining drivers who will make up the 42 car field. The field odds for the 2008 NASCAR Sprint Cup Auto Club 500 at California are currently listed at 20/1. If a driver from the field was able to win this years Auto Club 500 each $100 bet would pay $2000.

There are 6 drivers which can be considered long shots for this weekend’s race at Fontana; Dario Franchitti, David Ragan, Scott Riggs, David Gilliland, Sam Hornish Jr. and Paul Menard are all listed at 100/1. If any of these drivers were able to win the 2008 Auto Club 500 each $100 bet would pay an increbidle $10,000!
