TOKYO (AP) – Japanese media are reporting that Hiroki Kuroda, a free agent with the Yankees, will return to Japan in 2015 to pitch for the Hiroshima Carps.
Japanese broadcaster NHK and other reports said Saturday that the right-hander will wear the same number 15 that he wore for the Yankees. The Hiroshima team kept the number open for him for the eight years he was away, awaiting his return.
The reports say the 39-year-old Kuroda has signed a one-year contract worth 400 million yen ($3.3 million). Kuroda pitched for Hiroshima from 1997-2007, and then spent four years with the Dodgers before moving to New York.
In the last season he was 11-9 with a 3.71 ERA. While with the Major League, he was 79-79 with a 3.45 ERA in 1,319 career innings.
