MIAMI (AP) -The Florida Marlins decided against offering Joe Nelson a contract for next season Friday, making the pitcher a free agent.
Nelson pitched in 59 games and had three wins, one loss and one save in 2008 as the Marlins were third in the NL East with an 84-77 record. He pitched 54 innings and had a 2.00 ERA.
The 33-year-old was drafted by Atlanta in the fourth round of the 1996 amateur draft.
