TORONTO (AP) -The Blue Jays made a pair of waiver pickups Monday, claiming right-hander Kelvin Jimenez from the St. Louis Cardinals and shortstop Angel Sanchez from the Kansas City Royals.
The 28-year-old Jimenez had a 5.63 ERA in 15 relief appearances for St. Louis this season. He has a major league record of 3-0 with a 6.82 ERA in 49 games over two seasons.
Sanchez hasn’t been in the majors since playing eight games with Kansas City in 2006, when he batted .222 with one RBI. He missed the following season because of elbow ligament replacement surgery and a sprained finger. This year, he hit a combined .247 with two home runs and 36 RBIs at Double-A and Triple-A.
The 25-year-old infielder was an 11th-round draft pick in 2001.
The moves give Toronto 40 players on its 40-man roster.
