CINCINNATI (AP) -The Cincinnati Reds lost shortstop Alex Gonzalez and center fielder Josh Hamilton to injuries during Wednesday night’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Gonzalez appeared to injure his left knee while trying to beat out a double play grounder in the bottom of the third.
Hamilton left after aggravating a strained right hamstring while trying to beat out a grounder to third in the fifth inning.
Gonzalez was playing his first game after missing two with a sore lower left shin. He left the game against Milwaukee on Saturday before the seventh inning after fouling two balls off his shin.
Jeff Keppinger replaced Gonzalez both Saturday and Wednesday.
Hamilton missed games against Milwaukee on Saturday and Sunday with tightness in his hamstring. He returned to the lineup on Tuesday.
Norris Hopper replaced Hamilton, who will be re-examined Thursday.
