KANSAS CITY, Missouri (AP) Kansas City racked up its most runs and hits in a game for four years and beat Detroit 15-7 on Thursday, pushing the Royals’ huge lead in the American League Central division out to 13 games.
Elsewhere, San Diego beat Los Angeles to prevent the Dodgers boosting their division lead, and Milwaukee beat Pittsburgh yet again to frustrate the Pirates’ ambitions of making up ground in the National League Central.
Kansas City’s Lorenzo Cain hit a three-run homer, Paulo Orlando added a two-run shot and Kendrys Morales drove in four runs as the Royals wrapped up another series win; they are unbeaten in eight straight series.
Ben Zobrist drove in two runs for the Royals, whose 15 runs and 20 hits were their most since piling up 21 hits in a 16-8 victory at Colorado in 2011.
Detroit has given up 61 runs over its past six games, going 1-5 in a trip through Toronto and Kansas City.
San Diego’s Jedd Gyorko hit a two-run homer to lift the Padres past the Dodgers 10-7.
