LOS ANGELES (AP) -Dodgers second baseman Jeff Kent had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee Tuesday and might be able to return to action this month.
The Dodgers said the outpatient procedure took 20 minutes, no additional problems were discovered and Kent will be able to begin the rehabilitation process Wednesday.
A five-time All-Star and former NL MVP, Kent left Friday night’s game in Arizona with pain in his left knee. An MRI taken Sunday revealed torn cartilage, and he was placed on the disabled list for the first time since 2006.
“We’ll see what happens,” manager Joe Torre said after it was announced Kent would undergo surgery. “I know one thing: if there’s a chance he’ll come back, he’s going to come back.”
The 40-year-old Kent has yet to formally announce his plans following the final season of his $18 million, two-year contract with the Dodgers. He is hitting .275 with 11 homers and 57 RBIs.
