MIAMI (AP) -Atlanta Braves third baseman Chipper Jones said he is day-to-day with a twisted right knee he suffered during infield practice before the team’s 16-14 win against the Florida Marlins on Tuesday night.
Jones, who is hitting .358 with 20 home runs and 67 RBIs, was scratched from the starting lineup and replaced by Omar Infante. Jones said it hurts to walk but he should be able to play in a few days.
Atlanta manager Bobby Cox said Jones will be out of the lineup Wednesday.
Sunday, Jones was fighting some congestion caused by allergies and was out of the starting lineup. A day earlier, he hit his 20th home run of the season in the seventh inning of the Braves’ 9-8, 10-inning loss to the Washington Nationals, and joined Eddie Mathews as the only players to begin their careers with 14 straight seasons of 20 or more homers.
Infante had four hits and two RBIs in Jones’ place. But he also had two throwing errors in a three-run Florida first inning.
