NEW YORK (AP) Yoenis Cespedes is back in the lineup for the New York Mets, who are still without double-play partners Neil Walker and Asdrubal Cabrera for the opener of a pivotal, four-game series against Miami.
Wilmer Flores is set to start at second base Monday night in place of Walker, sidelined for the second consecutive day by a stiff back. Kelly Johnson is at third base, with Jose Reyes sliding over to Cabrera’s spot at shortstop.
Cabrera, the NL player of the week last week, exited Sunday’s loss to Philadelphia in the first inning after aggravating a left knee injury that sidelined him twice earlier this year.
Cespedes sat out Sunday after his nagging right quadriceps flared up. The slugger is playing left field and batting third Monday against Marlins ace Jose Fernandez.
Mets manager Terry Collins says he thinks Cabrera could pinch-hit if needed, but Walker is probably unavailable.
