ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) – Los Angeles Angels pitcher Garrett Richards was on crutches when he rejoined his teammates for the first time since his season-ending knee injury.
Richards hobbled out to center field Friday for the official team photo. The picture may not be too promising for him to start next season on time, but the prognosis is for a full recovery.
Richards was 13-4 with a 2.61 ERA when he tore a tendon in his left knee Aug. 20 while covering first base in a game at Boston.
The 26-year-old righty says he’s feeling less pain every day. He says he’s spending his evenings watching the AL West-leading Angels on television. He will formally begin his rehabilitation that’s expected to take between six and nine months next Tuesday in Newport Beach.
