PHILADELPHIA (AP) -The Philadelphia Phillies called up pitcher Fabio Castro from Triple-A Lehigh Valley before starting a four-game series at the Chicago Cubs on Thursday night.
Right-hander Andrew Carpenter returned to Double-A Reading after pitching a scoreless inning in the Phillies’ 6-3 loss to the New York Mets on Wednesday.
Castro is 0-1 with a 3.30 ERA in 30 major league games, including one start. The left-hander was 0-2 with an 8.10 ERA in three games for the IronPigs after going 8-2 with a 4.40 ERA in 27 games at Reading.
Castro pitched in four games for Texas in 2006 before he was traded to the Phillies in late June. He tossed 17 2-3 scoreless innings before allowing a run for Philadelphia.
