CINCINNATI (AP) -Atlanta Braves shortstop Edgar Renteria was placed on the 15-day disabled list Thursday, one day after he was activated.
He reinjured his right ankle while checking his swing on the first pitch he saw Wednesday against Cincinnati. Renteria aggravated the sprain that forced him to miss 17 games since Aug. 3.
Infielder Martin Prado, who was optioned to Triple-A Richmond on Wednesday but never left Cincinnati, was recalled. The 23-year-old Prado has hit .279 in 16 games.
Entering Thursday's games, Renteria was tied with Philadelphia's Chase Utley for the league lead in hitting. Both players are hitting .336. Renteria also hit 11 home runs and 53 RBI in 105 games before his injury.
