CHICAGO (AP) – Baltimore Orioles third baseman Manny Machado will soon have season-ending surgery on his injured right knee, according to multiple reports.
Yahoo! Sports first reported Friday that the 22-year-old All-Star was done for the year.
The Orioles began the day with a nine-game lead in the AL East, the biggest division margin in baseball.
Machado is hitting .278 with 12 homes and 32 RBIs in 82 games.
Machado sprained his right knee while taking a swing against the Yankees on Aug. 11. Last year, he missed the final week of the season because of an injury to his other knee.
