ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -The Texas Rangers activated infielder Hank Blalock from the 15-day disabled list on Friday and optioned third baseman Travis Metcalf to Triple-A Oklahoma.
Blalock first went on the DL after tearing his left hamstring while running out a double against the Twins on April 25. He also had surgery to relieve carpal tunnel syndrome in his right hand, and his stay on the sidelines was extended when he had a setback during a rehab start with Oklahoma. He returned to the disabled list July 29 with right shoulder inflammation.
Blalock is batting .273 with four homers and 15 RBIs in 31 games at third base this season. Manager Ron Washington has said he plans to play Blalock at first base and move rookie Chris Davis from first to third.
Metcalf hit .214 with four homers and eight RBIs in 16 games with Texas this season.
