DETROIT (AP) – Minnesota Twins star Joe Mauer has been placed on the seven-day concussion disabled list after he experienced dizziness during his pregame route and was scratched from the lineup against the Detroit Tigers.
Twins manager Ron Gardenhire says he’s glad the concussion list is available to help players in these cases.
Justin Morneau was shifted from designated hitter to first base to replace Mauer in the field. Outfielder Chris Hermann moved up to hit second in Mauer’s place in the lineup.
Mauer is hitting .324 with 11 homers and 47 RBIs for the Twins, who sit in fourth place in the AL Central.
Minnesota beat Detroit 6-3 on Tuesday night.
