MIAMI (AP) -Florida Marlins slugger Miguel Cabrera was scratched from the lineup for Monday’s game against San Francisco after he arrived late at the ballpark.
Cabrera had been set to bat third and play third base, but he was pulled less than an hour before the first pitch. The game had an unusual weekday starting time of 1:05 p.m. on getaway day for the Giants.
It was not known exactly when Cabrera got to the stadium.
Cabrera was out of the starting lineup for only the sixth time this season. He was batting .328 with 29 home runs and 87 RBIs.
Jeremy Hermida hit a three-run homer in the Florida first and Cabrera came out of the dugout to give him a hug.
Home run champion Barry Bonds was not in the Giants’ starting lineup.
