KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -The Kansas City Royals signed free-agent pitcher Kip Wells on Tuesday.
The 31-year-old Wells started the season as the Colorado Rockies’ opening day starter, but was eventually demoted to the bullpen. The Rockies designated Wells for assignment last week.
The right-handed pitcher is 1-2 with a 5.27 ERA in 15 appearances. He’s 1-1 with a 3.32 ERA coming out of the bullpen, which is where the Royals expect to use him.
Wells is a 10-year veteran. Kansas City is his sixth team.
